initially inspired by an exploration of transparency weavings while at arrowmont’s spring pentaculum; transparencies traditionally combine a sheer plain-weave ground cloth of fine undyed linen with solid figures made with an inlay technique in a thicker yarn. this series of weavings reverses the usual method, creating a type of portal that is a clear negative space but semi-veiled and colored by the linen ground cloth.

each weaving is a handmade replication and slow meditation on a specific memory based on an archival photo. like the photo or recalled memory itself, the weaving becomes a sort of portal to re-enter a transitional moment, mediated and obscured.
